Gamification Nation – Royal Navy App

Problem

As an award winning independent “Serious” games design agency, An Coppens and the team at Gamification Nation won a prestigious and highly confidential contract to create an engaging game element as part of the Royal Navy’s campaign to recruit submariners.

Skills Hive pitched to run the project originally, but An decided to select a more established agency to work with. However, she reached out again some way into the project as things weren’t going according to plan

“I just wanted to let you know that we won an award! I can’t believe it – especially as we were left in a very difficult place by the agency before you agreed to take over.” – An Coppens, Founder

Solution

Despite there being less than half the budget remaining, and over half the work yet to be completed, Skills Hive were able to pull together a suitable team of freelancers within a week to get the project back on track.

Spread across much of northern Europe, the team of designers and developers, led by their Project Sidekick who provided An with a single point of contact, went on to deliver the output on time and on budget, contributing towards Gamification Nation’s run of award wins in that period.

Success

Taking over so late in the project created huge amounts of risk and pressure, but the value focused team of collaborators were more than up to the task.

Getting such a complex app over the line for such a high profile end client, including extreme layers of stakeholders and red tape, was not without its challenges and stress points, helping a client win awards has to be a feather in the cap for everyone involved.
